Why this tool?
Why Convert Image Formats?
Not all image formats are created equal. Different formats are optimized for different purposes. Converting images to the right format can dramatically reduce file sizes, improve load times, and ensure compatibility across platforms.
How It Works:
Select your target format and quality settings. Our tool instantly converts your image in your browser using optimized algorithms. The entire process happens locally—no servers involved. You see the file size reduction before downloading.
Format Comparison:
JPEG: Best for photographs and complex images. Lossy compression. Widest browser support.
PNG: Best for graphics with transparency. Lossless compression. Perfect for logos.
WebP: Modern format with 25-35% smaller files than JPEG. Excellent for web.
AVIF: Newest format with superior compression. Best file sizes but newer browser support.
How to use this tool?
- Upload your image - Drag and drop, click to browse, paste from clipboard, or fetch from URL
- Select target format - Choose JPEG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF

132-bit Secure & Private
Your data is secure and automatically deleted. All processing is done in your browser with 132-bit encryption. Data uploaded to our servers is automatically deleted after 1 hour of inactivity.
132-bit data secured with encryption*
We use AES-GCM 128-bit encryption combined with HMAC and cryptographic salt, providing effective ~132-bit entropy for any data. This military-grade encryption ensures your image data remains completely private and secure. All data is automatically deleted from our servers after 1 hour of inactivity.
* Technical note: 128-bit AES-GCM + 32-bit HMAC/salt = ~132-bit effective security entropy
- ✓Automatic data deletion after 1 hour
- ✓132-bit AES-GCM encryption for all data
- ✓No tracking or analytics cookies
- ✓Web Crypto API for secure encryption
- ✓Open-source and auditable code

FAQ & troubleshooting
Will I lose quality when converting formats?
It depends on the formats involved. PNG to PNG and PNG to AVIF preserve quality (lossless). JPEG and WebP are lossy formats—you can adjust the quality slider to balance file size vs. visual quality.
What is WebP and why should I use it?
WebP is a modern image format that offers 25-35% better compression than JPEG at the same quality level. It's supported in all modern browsers and is ideal for websites to reduce bandwidth and improve load times.
Should I use AVIF or WebP?
AVIF offers superior compression (30-40% better than WebP) but has less browser support. Use WebP for broad compatibility, AVIF for future-proofing and archival where maximum compression matters.
What happens to my image metadata when converting?
EXIF metadata (camera settings, GPS data, timestamps) is removed during conversion for privacy and security. If you need to preserve metadata, use our Metadata Viewer tool before converting.
Can I batch convert multiple images?
Currently, you convert one image at a time. Batch conversion for multiple files is coming in v2 of the tool.
Is my original file preserved?
Your original file remains on your device. When you convert, the data is processed in your browser and automatically deleted after one hour of inactivity. Only download what you need.
